The client
The Met Office’s Domo platform is a primary source of reporting for marketing and customer insight, underpinning critical regulatory reporting obligations. When organisational changes left a shortage of specialist Domo expertise in-house, the team faced dashboards and dataflows that needed investigation, several manual data-collection processes, and mounting pressure to keep meeting reporting requirements without adding permanent headcount.
IO Analytics was engaged to provide specialist Domo consultancy, both to stabilise reporting in the short term and to help the Met Office build a long-term strategy for the platform.
The challenges
- •Strict regulatory timescales for critical reporting requirements that couldn’t slip.
- •Existing dashboards and dataflows needing investigation and remediation.
- •Manual data collection and update processes adding avoidable operational load.
- •Reducing dependency on external expertise through real knowledge transfer, not just a handover document.
What we delivered
- ✓A detailed discovery exercise, prioritising the issues affecting reporting performance, data quality and operational efficiency, so regulatory reporting commitments could be met with confidence.
- ✓Dataflow fixes and dashboard improvements that strengthened platform stability, reliability and the day-to-day experience for business stakeholders.
- ✓An automation roadmap covering automated ingestion of weather warning data, automated GovDelivery metrics collection, improved external data integration, streamlined survey data processing, migration to Google Analytics 4, and better long-term data management via Google BigQuery.
- ✓Bespoke training materials and hands-on workshops using real Met Office data, building internal skills across Domo administration, data engineering, ETL development, dashboard creation, visualisation and platform management.
The outcome
- ✓Critical reporting requirements delivered successfully, keeping regulatory obligations met with confidence.
- ✓A clear automation roadmap reducing reliance on manual data collection, processing and reporting.
- ✓A stronger foundation for deeper insight, through Google Analytics 4 adoption, expanded data integrations and improved dashboarding.
- ✓Increased self-sufficiency, with the Met Office team able to maintain, enhance and extend its own Domo environment.
The founder’s take
“Regulatory reporting doesn't leave room for guesswork, so the first job was stabilising what the Met Office already had before we talked about anything new. Building their own team's capability alongside that work is what turns a rescue project into a platform they can keep improving long after we've gone.”
